Summer Camp Counselors
The Carl Schurz School is looking for students interested in working in our 2026 summer camp program. They will be responsible for aiding in the care of students aged 2-10.
Qualifications:
- Counselors must be at least 15 years old.
- Experience in childcare roles OR education in childcare OR enrolled in a childcare/education degree program preferred.
- Ability to work with small children, including diapering and toileting.
- Ability to work as part of a team and accept feedback from lead teachers.
- CPR/First Aid training is not required but preferred.
- Must be fluent in English.
- Open to Eligible Family Members (EFMs) or Members of Household (MOH) only.
Scheduling is flexible from 8 am - 5 pm, Monday thru Friday from July 1st - August 15th.
Key Duties for counselors include:
- Assisting the teachers and students in different activities.
- Clean desks and floors at the end of the day.
- Help with transitions: snack and lunch times, indoor and outdoor times, nap time.
- Monitoring students during meal times, keep kids seated, help with hand washing and cleaning food areas before and after meals and snacks.
- Keeping the school area safe (hallway tidy and hazard-free).
- Child safety
- Help with clean up at the end of the day-sanitizing tables, wiping surfaces and sweeping the floor.
- Help lead teachers with set up at the beginning of the day-set up activities and gather supplies when needed.
- Help set up water play activities.
- Help with diaper changing and hand washing when needed.
- If you are over 19 and have experience or education in childcare there are opportunities to be a lead teacher over the summer.
